In the hustle and bustle of downtown New Haven, cars were sitting in the streets with horns honking and drivers yelling, radios blaring and pedestrians integrating in the small empty spaces between each metal box. The snow had covered the city the night before like a blanket, but had easily been trampled and run over, the streets and sidewalks clear of any ice. The sun was hiding behind a thick wall of clouds overhead, giving the afternoon a dreary feeling and leaving the snow lacking in a certain glittering beauty. The buildings were tall; they were in fact taller than most buildings that Elisabet was accustomed to seeing, as she spent most of her time in the pitiful ruins of Delmont or in her college dormitory.
The blonde had put together what she assumed to be an acceptable outfit, wearing black slacks and a blue blouse, covered with a neatly pressed black blazer. Her shirt's bowed collar accented the ensemble, and she wore plain black flats. Her teachers had advised her early on the year that, thanks to her height, she would be better off to avoid high heels at all costs, to seem more visibly appealing and even less intimidating to employers and those she worked with. Shuffling down the side walks her eyes focused intently on the names of each corporate building she passed, vivid blue orbs catching the most minor of details, from crack to crevice to every niche and cranny. She'd made sure to button up a nice plaid peacoat before leaving, and had her hands stuffed inside to warm them up while she walked. KingSmith Inc., That's where I'm going... She said internally, opening a large glass door. It lead inside to a rather impressive front office, with a secretary probably browsing a social networking site at the front. Elisa stepped up and cleared her throat before speaking. "I'm here for an interview with Mr. Kingsley? My name is Elisabet Kahvasi." The woman at the desk seemed unimpressed by the introduction. "Right. I'll let him know you're here. Fourth floor, and the elevator's down the hall." Elisabet thank her profusely before scuttling off, unbuttoning her coat as she waited for the elevator's doors to open. There seemed to gather a group of three others to wait with her, each one filing in to the already cramped elevator. She towered over most, and could reach over them to press the '4' button. The ride would constantly stop and people would leave, only to be replaced with someone else, before her floor arrived and she squeezed out with a breath of relief. Stepping out into the hallway she looked down both ways, turning right and walking to another secretary's desk, whom had her sit, waiting to be called in.

"Mr. Kingsley? Another internship applicant is on her way up to see you." The lazy voice of the Rebecca, rang out of the speakerphone on James' desk like. It annoyed the young COO to no end, and he was quick to hang up on her. In all honesty, most of the staff took it easy when James was in town, as it was pretty much guarenteed that his father wouldn't be visiting at the same time. "I don't even know why she has a computer," James mumbled to himself behind his oversized mahogany desk. The last man to use this office, some short, balding 'expert' with a superiority complex, loved the desk because he felt it intimidated any visitors. Unfortunately for James, the cost of removing it from the room without destroying it meant he was stuck with it whenever he visited New Haven.
Luckily, James was only compelled to visit these offices on rarely. Standing up from his messy desk, the young man stepped over toward the window behind him, glancing over the busy city with a condescending smirk on his face. New Haven was great to visit, but it wasn't home like Delmont was. James couldn't afford to shirk his duties, though. Not if he was going to keep up his after-dark heroing.
It only took a few minutes for a second, equally-annoying voice to inform James that his latest interviewee had arrived. "Thank you, Jesse," he had to force through a clenched jaw. "Send her in in... 5 minutes." She had, of course, already hung up. "I'm never going home," he told himself, "Because they're going to lock me up for murder." James took a moment to look over himself in a mirror. He wore faded blue jeans, a black t-shirt and a blue hoodie, zipped half way up. Briefly toying with the idea of zipping his hoodie all the way up or all the way down before ultimately deciding he didn't care, the young inventor strolled confidently over towards the door, swinging it open to his waiting room.
The young woman was relatively tall, just a few inches shorter than James. She seemed thin and attractive, but what he found most striking was her gorgeous blonde hair and blue eyes. She was well-dressed; very professional, and not a single feature seemed out of place. The first impression was a good one. "Please, come in," the COO motioned the beautiful girl towards his office, waiting for her to enter before returning himself. "I hope you didn't have any trouble getting here. I know winter weather can be difficult."

As she sat Elisa eventually pulled her hair into a low bun on the side of her head, the wavy locks having tickled the back of her neck. Her eyes flitted from place to place, noticing that the woman, who's tag read "Jesse", had used a glittery type of nail polish. The clock that sat behind her must not have been bought the company, since it was navy blue, and all the others were standard black. The entire building seemed less... Technological than she had imagined, as there were plenty of wood trimmings, and many of the office doors were made of wood, too. For being a corporation built on inventions, she had expected something far more sci-fi. While there was an air of slight disappointment as she took in her surroundings, she did have to admit that it was foolish of her to think it would be any different in the first place. He wasn't Tony Stark, after all.
When the blonde girl heard to door open she looked up, offering a friendly and cheerful smile to the man before standing with her coat over her arm. Elisa stepped inside the office before turning back, taking no hesitance to answer with a familiar tone that made it seem like she'd known him for years. "It wasn't any problem at all, really. I live in the dorms a few blocks over, and with how many people were walking on these sidewalks the snow was already stomped into a puddle." Offering a hand to him the smile not once faded, "I'm Elisabet Kavahsi, from Hydrale University."

James closely observed the way the young woman moved and behaved. Confident and friendly. He reached out and shook her extended hand twice, returning the warm smile. "Glad to hear the trip was easy for you. I'm James Kingsley, current COO of KingSmith. Please, have a seat and we can get started." James motioned towards a leather seat directly across from his desk as he made his way to his own seat, slowly rolling it into the proper position.
James shuffled through the messy pile on his desk, searching for the tan folder that contained KingSmith's report on Elisabet. "So, Ms. Kavahsi," he began as his search continued, his blue eyes scanning over every inch of his desk before trying a few of the drawers. "I suppose it would be best to begin with a simple question," the young man continued slowly as he removed the file from the bottom drawer, opening it up for the first time and clicking his pen as if ready to take notes. It took the genius only a few seconds to read the whole file before he continued. "It's not often we get applicants with your specific skill set. While attempting a triple-major is impressive, how would you say your specific areas of study would help you in this job?"

Of course, as she shook his hand, she already knew who he was. But introductions were important, so she said nothing. Walking over the chair she sat her coat over the back before sitting down, her legs crossing almost instantly. She folded her hands in her lap and sat straight. The huge desk was a little overkill, but she had a feeling the only thing that really belonged to him was the mess on top of it.
As he searched for her folder there was a bit of uncertainty in her thoughts, wondering if he even wanted to be going through these interviews in the first place. His lack of professional attire said that he didn't, and so did the unorganized way he was going about these interviews. While she had been lost in her own thoughts she heard the end of his question and nodded to herself. "Well, I've developed the skills to analyze case studies, create press releases, and coming up with written, oral, and visual components to presentations. Meaning, of course, if there's a speech needing to be written or given, I'm more than capable of doing so," She began, before pushing one of the long strands she had left out of her bun behind her ear, "And I'm good at and experienced in event planning, like charity events, and communicating with others in higher positions on the corporate ladder. Not to mention I've got a bit of OCD so organization is a key part to my agenda and I have a very good memory. My social sciences Major mainly focuses on Communication studies. I have a wide span of knowledge about effective advertising strategies, the effects of (and how to use) media to communicate efficiently with costumers, potential consumers and investors. Not to mention working with children has allowed me to be far more patient and less temperamental than a few others. It also forces for me to think in a more creative way. " She looked up, laughing a bit to herself, "It also means if a very childish client needs handling, I'm more than suitable to take the case... As long as there isn't too much math involved, I can probably work in whatever position I'm put into, especially when dealing with public communications." The blonde chuckled softly, obviously feeling a little overwhelmed herself with all of the things she'd mentioned.

"Well, you'll mostly be dealing with me, so being able to deal with childish people would serve you well," James chuckled as he struggled to scribble down his notes. That was a surprisingly thorough answer, James mentally noted before continuing. "It says here that you're from Delmont like myself. It'd be nice to have someone around who knows what a real Boogie Burger tastes like." Even thinking about his beloved city seemed to lift James' spirit and energy as he cleared his throat before continuing. "With your skill set you could have applied for an internship almost anywhere. So I have to ask, why KingSmith?"

Childish? For some reason, in probably some ways, she could think that that could have been a slightly accurate description. Not perhaps entirely, but most people were childish. He also seemed young, probably the same age as she, so Elisabet could only assume there still some childish tendencies. The mention of those old Boogie Burgers forced her to keep from making a face of disgust, though her nose wrinkled slightly. She never cared for fast food. "Well, KingSmith is from Delmont." She answered simply, though she seemed to soften a bit at the thought of her hometown. " It's well known throughout the nation and is still going strong. It's a good representation of what Delmont once was, and what it will hopefully once again be. I'd like to work for a business that's close to home, and I think you have Delmont's best interests at heart."

"That... Was a fantastic response," James noted aloud as he scribbled it down. It didn't really matter anymore, he had already decided to hire her, but it didn't seem fair not to finish the interview first. The young billionaire knowingly smiled at the girl across from him. "Your credentials are marvelous and I believe your personality really would allow you to stand out here. I just have one final question, and I know you probably rehearsed your answer twenty times on your way here." James paused for a moment, sliding a hand through his curly black hair as his face took on an apologetic look. "What would you say is your greatest weakness?"

Elisa simply beamed in pride at the response she received for her answer. It wasn't like she was going for something 'fantastic', but if that was the adjective he wanted to use, she'd take it with pride. In truth, she found the sentimental value pointless and simply dull, but being put on the spot to think as to why she was sent here, that was the best she could think of as an excuse. In reality, he teacher told her KingSmith would have suited her best. At the mention of another question the blonde's attention returned to the situation on hand, a hand wringing on her wrist as she thought. she hadn't expected that to be a question. "Well... I guess I''m too personal." She said, obviously thinking of how to put the answer together. "I like having a relation with those I'm around that is more than just colleague and colleague. I want them to know they trust me and that, if a situation arrives where they need someone, I'd be more than willing to be that person. And some times, I let it happen too much, and it puts a little bit of stress on my shoulders that I don't need or want. But I think I've come to terms with the fact that I want to be close with the people I'm around most often."

"I don't know if you met our staff in this building, but I have the distinct feeling you won't find yourself wanting to be around any of us," James teased, scribbling down the last of his notes. He closed the folder, opening a random drawer and shoving it in before standing up. "There's definitely a place for you here at KingSmith," James assured the beautiful young woman. He still wasn't sure if he wanted her in the specific position she applied for, but he did have one more test for that. "If you have time, there's something I'd like to have your opinion on." The young inventor couldn't hide his excitement as he led the way towards the door, motioning for the blonde to follow. It had become his passion project over the last week he had been in town, something he believed could change the world, if used correctly. James intended to be the one to do so.
He opened the door, shaking his head in disgust at his current secretary who had fallen asleep at her desk once again. "New Haven..." he mumbled under his breath before returning to his brisk, excited pace towards the elevator, assuming he was being followed by Ms. Kahvasi. James stepped into the empty elevator pressing the "2" button as he turned to hold the door for his potential intern. "I assume you can keep a secret," he smiled.

That's the truth-- none of them even looked qualified to work in a place like this. She mentally snorted in retort, chuckling softly on the outside in a laughter that sounded like wind chimes. Her eyes easily caught how he just threw the folder aside, something catching in her eyes underneath the faded brightness they had. The blonde knew then that she had most likely gotten the job, and held back a pure, tainted grin when her suspicions were confirmed, and instead allowed a childish smile spread across her lips. The two vividly blue eyes locked onto him, and a brow raised in his excitement, innocent curiosity apparent on her face. "Well, yes, I don't have classes for two hours, so I have plenty of time..." She explained before nearly jumping out of the chair to keep up with the boy.
Though she was nearly as tall as him, she managed to be slowed down quite a bit. Moving too fast made her fall behind and she was breathing a little harshly when she slipped inside the elevator, coughing to clear out her throat before pushing a lock of hair behind her ear that simply fell out. "A secret? Well, if you don't have some crazy weapon of mass destruction, I'm sure it own't be a problem."

Despite his efforts, James couldn't wipe away the goofy grin on his face as he let the doors to the elevator close behind Ms. Kavahsi. He had always been something of a showoff. He reached towards the panel, pressing and holding the "5" button for a few extra seconds before the elevator started moving. Instead of moving up toward the fifth floor, however, the elevator moved down. Past the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st floors. It continued going, deep underground, before slowly stopping at their destination. "Not a lot of buildings in New Haven have basements," he began as the doors opened revealing mostly-empty concrete room about the size of a football field. "At least not basements this deep. Right now we're about 15 stories below ground," He led the way out of the elevator towards a lone pedestal in the center of the room.
He kept a brisk pace as he walked, his long legs giving him an impressive stride. "Above us is about 150 tons of concrete and steel. Cell phones get no signal; Hell, radio waves have a hard time getting through it all. Makes it great for all the secret clandestine activities I partake in," He joked, almost out of breath given the speed he was talking at. He took a moment to catch his breath, looking down to admire his work before lifting it for Miss Kavahsi to see. It was an unassuming piece of rubber, just a relatively flat 2x2 foot square. "This," he introduced, his goofy grin expanding to seemingly impossible size, "Is everything you talked about earlier. You said earlier that you felt like we had Delmont's best interest at heart. This is how we rebuild the city."
"Think about the problems facing Delmont right now: Education, the real-estate bubble, poverty... crime. Every single one of them eventually relates back to jobs. The problem is that foreign labor is cheaper, but what we've forgotten is why that is. Delmont workers are more expensive because they make higher-quality products. It's time we remind them." The young inventor tossed the material to the young girl lightly. "Check out the tread. Still fresh, right? It was on a industrial belt-sander for 5 days straight. It's roughly the equivalent of running 3,000 marathons. In the Sahara Desert."
At this point, James couldn't hold his excitement in at all. His arms were jittery, a constant blur of spastic movement that he kept in-close to his body. A brief thought occurred to him that if he was this proud over something he could only imagine how hard it would be once The Ant started doing some notable good. He waited excitedly for the girls' thoughts. "What do you think?"

Two blonde brows furrowed at how he pressed down on the button, knowing that elevators broke rather easily. If he held it too long, it could cause the doors to break. Though, when it began to move, she allowed her attention to return to observing each little crack and crevice inside the machine. "Ah--" She began to protest the mention of a basement-- maybe being underground frightened her?-- because, well, taking a pretty girl to a what seemed to be a hidden basement was just very concerning and down right creepy, Elisa thought. But you have the power to kill him, so don't fret. She reminded herself, before following his quick pace as he stepped out.
Rubber? Her mind asked, her lips pulling into a slight frown as she stared at the square. Of course, what he said was partly true; the lack of people being able to work honest jobs in the city often did become a benefiting factor to the crime wave that was beginning to become more like a crime typhoon in the city. She extended an arm and caught the square, her slender fingers delicately tracing over the tracks she could feel, her fingers digging and bumping into each grove and mark. It could be an extremely useful material to keep.
"Have you tried it as defensive material?" She asked mindlessly, lost in her own thoughts before her head snapped up and her cheeks flushed pink. "Oh! No, I'm sorry-- I should answer your question before asking my own." She chuckled nervously, her smile returning out of pure embarrassment. "Well, if we would certainly need to begin advertising it. Not to mention gaining government support would really bring national attention to any factories working on producing this in Delmont. It would be a wonder to the industry. And other countries would quickly gain interest and be willing to invest in the product. The more demand there is the more need for workers..."

James' eyebrows slowly raised as he listened to the young woman's initial thoughts. She's perfect. "And the more people working in our factories, the better the economy of the entire city becomes." James reached over, flicking the rubber with his finger as he pondered how much he could tell this girl before technically hiring her. Well, he won't tell her the process, at least not before the patent took effect. Just the details of the end result. "There aren't any military applications that won't directly translate into middle-America," he explained. "It doesn't have any extra stopping power. In fact, it has pretty much the exact qualities of the rubber you're used to. Except for one distinct difference: The surface of this material absorbs friction instead of being worn down by it."
The young inventor took back his invention gently, placing it back onto the pedestal. "Shoes and tires, mostly," he explained, walking back towards the elevator. "But a brand new material like this will lead the way to more development. We'll be selling the raw material to thousands of new companies with ideas of how to use it, creating more and more jobs along the way."
He stood in the elevator, once again holding the door open for the blonde. "But people won't buy slightly more expensive shoes, even if they last almost forever, just because I claim they do. The shoes will need to look good, of course, but more importantly they'll need a face. Every shoe company in the world right now is competing over the obvious choice, Wanda Drew. We don't have the pull to get her, so I won't waste any resources trying. We need a big play." James reached into his back pocket as the elevator began its ascent, revealing a simple business card with his personal contact information on it. "Sorry for throwing all of this at you at once, but I want you to be my right hand on this project. Now that you know what the job really is, are you still interested?"
